While everyone is hyped to see Elden Ring finally emerge from the darkness with an actual trailer during Summer Game Fest, I did sort of see that everyone somewhat forgot what George RR Martin is
The Elden Ring was the item that made Queen Marika (the reigning sovereign of the Lands Between) a god, and when it was shattered its pieces were stolen by her children, the Demigods. Hilariously, every single one of the Gods and Demigods in the game's mythos has a name starting with G, R, or M: Godfrey, Godrick, Godwyn, Rennala, Radagon
“George R.R. Martin wrote the mythos for Elden Ring, creating a history set long before the events of the game,” said producer Yasuhiro Kitao in a FromSoftware interview released by Bandai
This. I get the impression the real story is similar to how much Miyazaki’s drawn from Berserk over the years. Having GRRM on in an official capacity for setting lore also happens to give Miyazaki and his team the freedom to draw more direct inspiration from Game of Thrones, including everything from Seluvis’ story to the most obvious of all, the big iron throne greatsword.
Tv show could have been but season 7 and 8 fucked up big time. He hasn't even finished the books and his involvement in the game imo overall mythos Miyazaki and the team took from that and made it into Elden ring.
